Report a Dog Waste Issue
NYC 311
File a complaint with the NYC Department of Sanitation through 311. You can report dog waste on sidewalks, streets, parks, and other public areas. DSNY inspectors follow up and can issue violations directly to dog owners.
How to Report
- Online: portal.311.nyc.gov — search "Dog Waste"
- By phone: Call 311 (or 212-NEW-YORK from outside NYC)
- App: NYC311 app for iOS and Android
What to Include
- Exact address or intersection
- Description of the issue (sidewalk, park, building entrance)
- Date and approximate time if you witnessed it
- Photo if you have one — it strengthens the complaint
What Happens Next
DSNY logs the complaint and may assign an inspector. If a dog owner is caught in the act, a summons can be issued on the spot. Complaints help DSNY identify high-complaint areas and prioritize enforcement.
